Q1: What is the differences between PE300, PE500, and PE1000? +
These numbers represent the approximate molecular weights of the polymers. PE300 refers to High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) with a molecular weight of around 300,000 g/mol, which is rigid, easy to weld, and ideal for structural chemical tanks. PE500 (HWMPE) has a molecular weight around 500,000 g/mol, offering intermediate wear resistance for food-contact surfaces. PE1000 is true UHMWPE, with a molecular weight of 1,000,000 g/mol to over 9,000,000 g/mol. It provides the highest abrasion resistance, lowest coefficient of friction, and superior impact resistance.
Q2: How does a buyer verify if they are receiving genuine 100% Virgin UHMWPE? +
Genuine UHMWPE has a density of ~0.94 g/cm³ and does not absorb water. It has a characteristic waxy surface texture and cannot be processed using standard injection molding because it does not flow at melt state (melt flow index is practically zero). Ram extrusion is a continuous method that is useful for profiles, but it can introduce internal stresses and structural weaknesses in wide, thick sheets. Compression-molded boards have superior flat tolerances, zero internal stress, and consistent wear life throughout the material cross-section.
Q5: Can UHMWPE sheets be welded or glued? +
Due to its low surface energy and self-lubricating characteristics, UHMWPE cannot be reliably bonded using standard commercial adhesives. Mechanical fastening (using counter-bored bolts or custom metal backings) is the recommended method for mounting liners. Welding can be performed using specialized plastic extrusion welding gear or butt-welding machinery at controlled thermal cycles, though the weld zones will have slightly lower strength than the base material.
